When you add a still shot to Vegas, it automatically sets its length to 5 seconds. Does anyone know how to change this default or know of any way to add stills to create an animation?

I’d like to be able to set the default to 1/24th and just drag and drop a whole folder of stills into Vegas.

    Thanks!

Options > Preferences > Editing > New Still Image Length

Needs to be set BEFORE you drop the stills on the timeline.

For animation number the stills sequentially. Then “File-Import” and choose the first numbered still. Then check the little box (lower left) to import the string. It will add the string as a video file.

If you want to get a feel for this, first export a short piece of video as stills. This is a little wierd but it is under “Tools-Scripting-Render image Sequence.” Vegas will send out the video as a group of 1 frame jpeg or png files in a sequence. Check those out. You want to do something like that to do the animation.

I know this is odd. It seems like Vegas should have “Import-Export” instead of two different areas for inbound and out.

On that “Import” it is “File-Import-Media” — then select the first still and check the box at the bottom for the numbered stills

Definitely use the “Image Sequence” import method. That will be much easier to work with instead of trying to make each separate image 1/24th of a second.

that does seem like the best way to do it, but for some reason vegas gives me an error when i send it a string of jpegs. (Warning: An error occurred while opening one of more files. The item was not found.)

thanks so much for all the help. i hope i can figure this thing out.

Sorry it didn’t work for you but it does work – just quirky. The files would have to be compatible as to resolution etc. Just a thought — try numbering them in the same manner as Vegas when it exports them. In fact, try saving your files with their names.
