  • Stop Motion Problem: how to make clay look like a liquid

Posted by Kay Nender on September 21, 2006 at 2:59 am

I have a scene in a stop motion project in which a part of the clay shot is supposed to look wet. It was soaked at the time of shooting, but the shots all just look like darker clay, not a wet goo like they should. Is there a particular effect or preset anyone can suggest to make a dull object look shiny? Something like plastic wrap in photoshop would be ideal.

Also, it there a way to select a color range to apply the effect to, as I only need to make on color of clay “gooey”

    Thanks very much!

    Hi,

I am not sure if this could work as you expect but try to add an adjustment layer, mask the area you want to alter (animate it if necessary) then apply CC Glass to your adjustment layer. Play with parameters of the plug and of course add a duplicate of your clip at the bottom.

    Salut.

you might be able to use the effect called “CC Glass” but it really depends on your shot.

You can always take your clip from AE (render filmstrip (.flm) my fav but I’m in the minority) or an image sequence, into PhotShop and run plastic wrap, then bring back into AE. Then there would be some masking orusing a luma matte and adjustment layer like Andrew does in “Blemish Removal”. Image sequences in PS need batch processing (Action?)or a droplet.

Here is an excellent tip for applying Photoshop filters to many files quickly.

    I hope it helps.
