    Hi

I’d like to create a stop motion effect by being able to have each frame in my sequence run for half a second.

I can cut each frame, copy it, and paste it in 15 times – and that gives me exactly the look I want – but it will take me a million years to do it by hand.

I’m guessing there’s a much simpler way – can any of you help?

    Thanks!

    Hi Frank,
try the “Strobe” filter set at “15 frames”.

Effects > Video Filters > Time > Strobe

This filter should do what you’re looking for, the footage plays back at regular speed, but skips a specified number of frames. I’m playing around with the settings on 24fps footage, and a Strobe Rate setting of 4 skips about 15 frames, while a setting of 5 skips half a second (12 frames at 24P). One of those settings should do the trick for you. If not, play around with the sliders until you get what you want.

If you’re looking to do a slow-mo stop motion effect, right click the clip, select Change Speed…, and set it to 6.67% (6.67% of 30 fps = about 2 fps). Be sure to uncheck Frame Blending to get that jumpy look you’re going for.
