  • Stop first clip on timeline overriding project settings

Posted by Julian Bowman on December 31, 2012 at 7:30 pm

I recall seeing somewhere a tick option to make the first clip I drop on the timeline override whatever settings I have set for my sequence. I believe I had it unchecked but I guess not which is why my settings were altered and I now cannot export in the dimension size I wish.

I can’t see it in the preferences pane (though I may be being thick/blind) so could someone point me in the direction of that tick box so I can tell FCPX to stop changing stuff.

    Cheers

It’s in the new project dialog. You can change project properties, other than frame rate, in the project inspector.

    All the best,

Cheers Tom, still can’t see the tick box to stop the first clip affecting stuff but see how I can change the project settings after it has been changed by the first clip.

    Cheers

When you create a project the default setting is based on first clip. There is a checkbox that you uncheck to prevent that from happening. If it’s unchecked you might get a dialog asking to specify the project settings.

    All the best,

Ha, yes, that’s the checkbox I was asking where it is? So it is when a new sequence is created then? Cool, will keep an eye out next time I am in there.

    Cheers, as ever.

Is there any way to change the frame rate after the timeline has been set? I have a project where the footage is 29.97 and somehow the timeline got set at 23.98. This has caused all kinds of problems. Especially when put on our server. The video runs at 29.97 not 23.98, causing the video to run faster than the audio so sound sync disappears almost immediately and never returns. Plus the video runs out before the sound so the audio ends up playing over black as the server waits for the audio to finish. Not pleasant to watch!
I haven’t been able to find anyway to reset the frame rate in either the timeline or event.
