    Howdy mooo cowers

    ok running dual 2.7 – 4 gig ram AE 7.0.1 and 10.4.8

Ok we have a project where we have a still 6000 x 3000 at 300 dpi and we are cutting out a alpha and reveling a pack shot – we are also putting a blur on it.

To render this to a MOV it took 1 hour to render !!!!!!

I believe the render is trying to render the entire picture ( when off camera ) is there a secret to speed up the render and yes I know faster computer etc …. I have never seen 15 frames take an hour to render

No, in your specific scenario it is doubtful you will be able to use trickery. Sounds like you are using 3D layers and in that case there is no way of cheating. If so, 4 mins per frame doesn’t sound too bad after all, considering AE’s general slowness with 3D layers.

I had something similar to this with huge layers (3500pix +) not so long ago. It was a simple move, a 2D layer and motion blur enabled. If you need the layer so big because it’s zooming back into position you are a bit stuck I think. Otherwise I’d try to crop the layer by rendering it out and pulling it back in or something – so that AE only reads and tries to render the pixels within the frame?

Other than that you could maybe try playing with the ‘region of interest’ function, where you crop a box of just the bit you want to preview..don’t know if it works with final renders but if it doesn’t you could always ave you RAM preview?

Let us know how you get on.
