  • Still trying to capture SD downconverting with IoHD

Posted by Alan Lacey on February 15, 2008 at 6:20 pm

I’m trying to capture to SD (Pref 4:3) using the IoHD downconverting on the fly from a 1080i50 SDI ip.

The IoHD does the downconvert, I’m using ‘crop’ mode and the analogue output confirms this, but trying to capture (FCS2)with any of the 625 capture presets it just won’t be having it.

I’d prefer SD ProRes(HQ) but any of the better quality codecs would do – this footage is for green screening.

Capture source is a PDW 350 which only has HD SDI op. Bit of a bummer as the new 355 does SD SDI as well.

    Any ideas guys?

    Thanks Alan

First open your AJA control panel.

Set your primary format to 625i and your secondary format to 1080i50.

Open FCP. Choose an AJAioHD ProresHQ 625 setup.

    You should be good there.

I”d sure work natively if you can instead… especially if you’re doing some compositing.

ProRes HD isn’t much larger a file than SD either… might transcode to that then composite, crop etc for the delivery. You’ll get cleaner keys I’ll wager.

Jeremy, you are a hero sir! It works flawlessly

It was having the secondary format needing to be 1080 that confused me. Also with ‘down conversion’ set to crop I can get 4:3 which is ideal for this project.

    Thank you so much.

Thanks Jerry but we’re a long way into this project and it’s all SD so I think I’d prefer to stay that way for this.

I do take your point though!

Yeah, it is a bit confusing as you’d think you would want it to be 625 as your primary should be 1080 cuz that’s what you are feeing it. It’s opposite from the downconvert.
