  • Still picture of myself in 3d into after effects?

Posted by Sjur Herman on March 27, 2009 at 11:50 pm

Hey buddies! I am looking to do a 3d picture of myself(still) and then put it all together and bring it in to after effects 3d. What would I use to put the pictures all together and key out the background in 3d?

    Thanks friendly amigos

Thanks for great input! But I am thinking of doing this in a more 3d way. With a 3d rotation of about 180 degrees. Mybe do it in 3d max, but would I have to build a body just like mine and wrap the fotos together and around the frame?

After Effects is a compositing program. It has some 3D capabilities, but they are referred to as 2.5D since they are just 2D objects positioned in 3D space (nothing has any depth/volume). You can create the illusion of having depth by using different layers to make all the surfaces of a box (or other shape). As an example of this, you can watch my promo video for my Texture Packs seen here:

    https://www.precomposed.com/products/texture_packs/

The entire promo video was created in After Effects. There is a 3D box around 25 seconds that rotates.

For what you want to do, you will need to do it in a 3D application (such as 3d studio max). The curvature of the face and body can only be done in a 3D app. You might want to look for some tutorials on how to create this. You need to combine all the pictures into one, so it looks almost like a flattened out halloween mask, and apply it as a texture to the face of the 3d model. Once you find the tutorial, you will understand what I am talking about.
