Still issues with importing images
Posted by Eric Nicastro on April 27, 2009 at 9:02 pmHere’s another question that relates to my first issue. When I import logos into Avid it resizes them to fill all four corners of the screen. Why does it do that? It doesn’t maintain the original size and blows up the images and logos. I can obviously resize them manually, but how do I tell Avid to not do that?

April 27, 2009 at 9:27 pmThe short answer is you don’t 🙂
The Avid looks to fill the raster with any image you import. It basically only lets you interpret the pixel aspect, frame ratio, color levels and alpha. Place your graphics in the appropriately sized frame before you import into Avid. If the logo has an alpha channel you can make it larger than necessary in your graphics program then resize it and move it around after you import it.

April 27, 2009 at 10:48 pmAre your logos smaller than your project’s frame size? If they are, import and change your import settings to Maintain, Don’t Resize. They’ll come in untouched.
Also, read through the help files and manual about the different import options.

April 28, 2009 at 4:48 amIn my experience:
Go to Photoshop, make new file 768 x 576 (PAL).
Place and scalling your logo. Save it in targa or PSD with Alpha Channel.
When import, select Maintain, Square Pixel, Single Field and 601/709.
Hope it help.

April 29, 2009 at 5:04 pmOk, the “do not resize smaller images” setting worked and keeps the logos I import the proper size. But now I have another problem. How do I change the color of the drop shadows so its not just black? Sometimes I need to use a white drop shadow. Also, how do I had a color border around logos and such? I use logos that are alittle darker and need to add a highlight border to make them standout better. I know it all can done in Avid FX. But I’m trying my hardest to not use that. I’d rather work directly in the main timeline of Avid.

I ussually work with Photoshop for that kind of demand, sadly.

Do you have Boris plugins? If you do, drop their Drop Shadow effect onto your clip. It’s a better drop shadow than Avid’s and you can change the color to whatever you want.
To outline your logos, use the Boris Glow effect and set it to affect the alpha. Adjust to taste and you can get it to look like a colored outline/border.
If you have Media Composer, you should have the Boris plugins (unless you have the academic version of MC).
