  • Still having sync issues…PLEASE Respond!!!

I added a post on July 25th about some sync issues I was having and no one responded with any type of suggestion. I really need help, but if no one has an answer, a simple “We don’t Know” would be appreciated. I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out a solution on this project, which needs to be comppleted by the end of the week. So please, if you know of a solution, please let me know. THe original post was on July 25th by Southern Video.

Don’t think you should make people hunt for your original post. But since you asked for people to respond with “I don’t know,” I don’t know.

My suggestion would be to dub VHS to a DV tape and capture that, that way you have something with TC to capture with.

Usually when audio gets out of sync over time it is a problem with sampling rates that differ from your playback rates. But it could be a problem with the timecode you are using as well. Drop frame versus non-drop. I’m really unfamilar with the DAC-100 but does it produce two different capture files- one for audio and another for the DV video? Your problem sounds remarkably like the problems we used to have with the early AVIDs.

For others here was Scott’s original posting:

I read the post about the sync problem and mine might have the same problem, but I will post any way. I am trying to capture from a VHS through a datavideo dac-100. I have done this before with no problems, but I just recently upgraded to from a G5 to an intel mac. Once digitized and in the timeline, the audio plays fine, but as is plays longer, the audio slips more and more out of sync. I did notoce that the audio setting on the timeline was at 48.0 and the same setting for the clip is something like 4753859.0. I tried to capture a little at at time, but the further I got in to the tape, the audio number would get further and further away from 48.0

Which is playing faster (getting ahead), audio or video?

My first guess would be that you are somehow dropping video frames during capture, and may have the warning turned off. How full are your hard drives?

    Hi Scott,
I’ve sow few post of people complining about capturing audio with data-rates around 48Khz but not exactly 48. It seems that the most of those problems are relating with -frames dropping when capturing. Your’s can not be a TC related problem because you are downloading VHS. I can only think about a problem with your drivers. As Stevens ask you, are they very full? Are fast enough? Try to have a look at that and if the problem persist the only sugestion is what msacci says, dub your VHS to a DV tape.
And the next time that your post get not answer, just repeat your post. You don’t have to worry if you need help.
    Cheers,
    rafael

The DAC-100 creates 1 file with Audio and Video together. I guess it works differently for different types of NLE’s, but for FCP it creates a quicktime file.
