    Hi all,

Ok, here’s the scoop in brief.

Anytime I go to render, AE gets half way through the first comp in the queue and crashes “unexpectedly”. I have tried everything from reinstalling AE, all the updates, and plugins. I’ve also tried using actual FCP clips, reference clips from FCP, as well as bypassing my external media drive entirely (so all source images/footage and renders out) would go to the mac hd. Still I crash! I have no idea where to go from here. I’m currently listening to some jazz selection on hold with Adobe.

I have the error report if anyone would like to see it…some light reading.

    Thank you for your help!!!!!

what are the specs for your mac…

intel macs have some issues running ae under rosetta particularly if you have 3gb of ram or less. there are also issues with cc effects (cycore effects that came with ae) and probably some other 3rd party effects with intel macs. there is also a strange opengl issue that i’ve found that will cause a crash any time your apply an opengl accelerated effect to a non-adjustment layer (apply the effect to an adjustment layer and it works great).

but you can try the usual fixes… turn opengl off in the preview pref, remove 3rd part plugins and effects, remove quicktime components found in the library>quicktime or posibly users>user name>library> quicktime (not the quicktime folder in the system folder), set the secret pref (hold shift while selecting any pref, then check the pulldown menu) to purge frames at a set interval (like 10 frames). and if you have an intel mac, quit all non-intel mac applications (i.e. any adobe product).

It works for myself and other users. Follow moldyboot’s suggestions, get back in touch if those don’t work.

[Dave LaRonde] “You wouldn’t happen to be running AE 7 on a Mac Pro, a piece of hardware that contains different processors from their predecessors, and that Adobe never knew anything about when they wrote the software, now would you?”

Ah yes, the old technology company being blind-sided by the inevitable advance of technology nonsense. Does the same go for Vista?
