  • STILL HAVING EXTREME Problems with Firewire editing in systems

    Need help extremely frustrated !!!

I have been editing in FCP 3 and 4 and will be installing FCP 5 soon.
I do most of my work in SD 4.2.2 with My Deckllink Extreme card on my G5.
I have no problem with 10bit uncompressed even up to 1 hout long sequences
working with the Decklink card and my HUGE U320 RAID, 3 video tracks, 6 or more AUDIO, Live type and everything works smoth as silk, (monitoring, editing, you name it).

However because of storage space I still want to edit some event work in DV.
This involves some sequences 15minutes or longer. When I work in DV within
the first minute both the displays (in FCP and my NTSC monitor) start getting
jerky, drop frame warning comes up ….

I have looked on other threads on this forum and have tryed; trashing FCP prefrences (from user>Library) and have checked my Viewers and set them to Fitall

Also thinking I might have a conflick with my Decklink card and apples firewire
I switch back to my dual G4 for firewire but still have the same problems.
I also have a new 1.67ghz power book that does it too, although a little less.

I must be doin somthing worng cause
On all of my systems I run RAID’s:
do I have to install another FW card to make these systems work wright ?

    here is my systems:

    SYSTEM 1
    Dual 2ghz G5
    10.3.8
    2.5gb DDR
    FCP 4.6
    HUGE U320 RAID 1.2TB (ave. 320mbs)
    decklink extreme capture card

    SYSTEM 2
    Dual 1.42ghz G4
    10.3.8
    FCP 4.6
    2.5gb DDR
    SIIG internal RAID 320GB

    SYSTEM 3
    1.67ghz 15″ Power Book
    1gb DDR
    FCP 4.6
    External G-RAID 320GB (FW 800)
plus PCMCIA FW 400 card for capture.

Note this system edits DV best ??? go figure

    please offer HELP

    Thanks

    Dane

Capture your DV footage to your internal harddrive. I know it sound stupid but I had major problems trying to capture and playback DV from my SCSI Raid. Used the internal drive instead and it just flies. Good luck!
