January 2, 2007 at 12:19 pmThere are many choices for various purposes. But the first few steps would be the same:
Park the cursor on the frame you want to export.
Then:Step 1: File> Export> Using QuickTime Conversion… “Save” window appears
Step 2: Format> Still Image
Step 3: Options… > Format: (choose PNG, PICT, JPEG, Photoshop etc.) > OK
Step 4: Name your image, Set location (disk, folder, desktop) for your new still. > Save -

January 2, 2007 at 2:33 pmHi all,
I really need you help.
I have a lot of video footage that I want to convert to still images. I have both iMovie and FCP and the process of making the still frames are quite easy, but which deliver best result in terms of quality? Is there any other program that makes it better?
I am also wondering if there are any tips or tutorials on how to edit these still frames in Photoshop.
Finally if I know in ahead that I will use frames from my videos for still images, what should I bear in mind in terms of camera settings, light and MiniDV cassettes? I shooot on Canon XM2.
Thanx for help

January 2, 2007 at 4:03 pmDV footage captured in any editing program will give you the same quality on export.
The problem is that using a “still” exported from a video camera will only have limited resolution (approx. 720 x 540 pixels @ 72 dpi).
This can be very low quality when used in printing.
There are some third-party applications that can raise the perceived quality of these images.
I’ve seen pxl SmartScale recommended many times.

This one’s a popular choice, too:

Here’s a link that tells how to try this kind “up-rez/interpolation” technique using only Photoshop CS.
https://www.interpolatethis.com/
Although I’ve tried it and did not get any tangible results.
As far as tips for using Photoshop, there are many tutorials (many must be purchased) available for that application, most of which can be found with a Google search.

January 3, 2007 at 2:28 pmIf you don’t go to resize you don’t have to care about interpolation, and if you go to treat the images in Photoshop, export the files in this format. If you want to treat the images, unles are lanscapes or pictures without movemenet, you should deinterlace the still frames. I would recommed you to do that with a good filter in FC, because the de-interlacing filter in PH is not one of its highlights.
Salud,
Rafael
