  • Still Frame Export – size issue

    Hi,

Does anybody know why i have a resizing problem with TIFFs. My workflow is – i select a scene on my timeline, export a frame as a TIFF, load it into photoshop to edit (im filling in areas in solid color), i resave it under a new name, i import it back into premiere and for some reason it will be a slighty different size !?

Now i have changed the size of the exported frame from within photoshop, so why wouldnt it be the exact same size ?

Any help is appriecated greatly! Shaun

Are you using the video presets in Photoshop? If you don’t watch it you can change the pixel aspect ratios when importing and exporting.

What frame size are you exporting? And how are you interpreting it when you import it back in?

do you mean presets that are applied to the TIFF when saving ? I’ve just been leaving that default. Also, i’m not using any other video presets, in the filter section there are De-Interlace and NTSC Colors filters – not sure what they do exactly

    > What frame size are you exporting? And how are you interpreting it when you import it back in?

I’m exporting at 720 x 480. In photoshop the image size is showing as 720 x 480. I am importing back in via file > import and then selecting the TIFF. It is showing as a still image at the same size (720 x 480) as the original clip that i exported the frame from.

The only different i can see is that under video info for the clip, it is showing 720 x 480 (0.9) and the still is showing 720 x 480 (1.0)

BTW is 720 x 480 the highest pixel ratio i can go ? if i want the best possible qauility, should i / can i set this higher ?

    Cheers, Shaun

It sounds like you are exporting 720X480 square pixels, and then reimporting as 0.9 rectangular pixels.

Try exporting as 720X534 square pixels. That should help quite a bit.

Like Stephen says you could be changing pixel aspect ratio, there are two things you can do, if Photoshop 7 or higher there are video presets, open New under file then there will be a list of presets, select a video one that suits the size of your project, Like NTSC DV/DVD, that will stay till you change it, just close the window and use File->Open and as select your TIFs the will open with the preset eg: 720×534, or if a earlier version just enter the 720×534 as a preset, another thing you can export a clip of frames as a FilmStrip(flm), then import that into PhotoShop, it will appear as a large image, the(length)depth is the ammount of frames you exported as a FilmStrip, If you exceed the max pixel depth of PhotoShop, Photoshop will open a second column of frames along side the first, refer to the online help in Premiere and Photoshop for further info.
