    Jeremy,

Please excuse my laziness in typing. I am only talking about an AJA Io-HD. Sorry for the confusion there. We do not own any SD flavor of Io, so any time that I typed “Io” I was referring to an Io-HD.

We’ve got a Fasta 4e card in one PCI slot, and a Sonnett Firewire card in another. I’ll have to check to see which specific slots.

Alright, and this is a 2008 MacPro, or the first gen MacPro?

Sorry if this is a rehash.

    Dave,

If I digitize something in Final Cut, close FCP, then drag that media file to the Quicktime player app, and it plays out of sync, doesn’t that indicate that it is being captured out of sync? Can it possibly be digitized correctly if it plays back out of sync in both Final Cut Pro and in Quicktime? I don’t see how. We are not getting any kind of drift. It is out of sync by seven frames every time. If we put the clip on a FCP timeline, unlink audio and video, and then slide the audio track down the timeline seven frames, everything then looks OK.

When this thing is acting up, we can see gross “out-of-syncness” in the log and capture video window within FCP. The actual video monitor looks OK during digitization. Remember, this video monitor is being fed by the Io-HD box. That means that the audio and video from the Betacam deck are coming into the Io-HD (via component/analog audio in)and going out to the monitor (via SDI out) and it looks fine. But something is happening to the part of the signal that is going from the Io-HD box to the computer (through the Firewire 800 cable). We have switched out the Firewire cable. That was one of the first things we tried. Somewhere along the way, the audio and the video are getting out of sync by 7 frames.

Confusing, ain’t it? Like I said, I’m stumped on this one.

I have a system similar to yours, and I too have experienced a sync issue, but after the fact. It will go 7 frames out for no apparent reason. I just finished a spot. All was fine. I went to make a QT for the web then FCP and the QT are out of sync 7 frames. I trash the prefs and still get the same out of syncness. Luckily, I have already gotten the spot out the door (in-sync). If I open FCP again, it will likely fix itself. That is the way it has been with the new 8-core since I got it.

I’m having the same problem using a DV deck with firewire. I’ve tried several different decks and cables. everytime I capture, the audio is out of sync. when I capture “on the fly” the sync is fine. I thought it might be DV and firewire but if you’re having the same problem with beta and Io, it can’t be that. I’m using a brand new MacPro 8-core with 4gigs of ram.
    help!!

I just started using my new Mac Pro and I too have that 7 frame out-of-sync thing happening in FCP. I capture on the fly and all looks good. I edit within FCP the next day and all looks good. I come back to it the next day, and the audio is off by seven frames. And it is intermitent and thus far unpredictable.

I re-sync the project, and the next day it is off again, whether or not I left the computer on overnight (GASP!) or not. Occasionaly it will happen if I close FCP for a while then return. What the…?!

Our problem was purely a configuration issue. Our Beta deck (UVW-1800) was not correctly hooked up, and there was a menu item on the deck that was not correct.

We are still having audio/video sync issues with the IO-HD and the Sony HVR-M25U HDV deck. When using a HDMI cable between the deck and the Io-HD, Hi Def video works fine, especially when ingesting with the ProRes422 codec. However, if we use the Io-HD to down convert into any SD codec, we get serious out-of sync issues.

This is a VERY consistent problem, but it only exist when using the HDMI cable between the deck and the Io-HD, and it also only exists in SD, not HD video.
