  • Still can’t render the timeline…

Posted by Colin Williams on January 27, 2006 at 6:44 pm

I recently updated a demo project from the older version of FCP (being 4.5) and am attempting to render the timeline. No luck. The clips showing the red “needs render” lines are not rendering. I am clueless.

This project I’m working on is my demo reel. I need to send it to a potential client. Freakin’ out a bit.

I tried rendering every conceivable way, changing sequence settings, trashing the prefs file (several times), re-booting…nothing. I even have another project that originated in version 5 that’s giving me the same issue.

I’ve tried every render option in the drop-down menu, I’ve also tried Option+R (as Peter suggested), Command+R. Still nothing.

    Any thoughts? Please help!

    Thanks,

    Yes, I did.

However, just as I noticed your post, I went and selected clips individually and rendered them clip by clip. They all rendered except for the first few.

    I’m closer, but still lost.

Most clips originated with different codecs. So this may have some bearing. But these first few are a mystery to me. They don’t want to render. Like I said in the first post: I’ve tried EVERY render option.

There has to be something holding it back. But what? no idea.

Thanks for the help! Any other clues?

I had effects applied to some clips that had only worked in the previous version of FCP. I guess FCP 5 only translated some of the old 3rd party plug-ins and not the others.

It read certain Eureka plug-ins but not others.

So I went in and deleted the “Film Look” effect that I had applied when working in FCP 4.5 and kept the remaining effects applied and BAM!…they rendered perfectly.

    Never underestimate the dummy check!

    Thanks for the help.

I’ve noticed that a few of my Eureka plugins from FCP4.5 just don’t want to work in FCP5.
    For what it’s worth…

Same here. I’m not sure why Eureka’s plugins seem to have a problem with FCP5.
