Any recommendations about short shot-gun stereo mics? Anyone using the Sony ECM-680S with EX1? Any comparisons between the Sony and the Audio Technica? Any other ideas.

    Thank you.

    Hi Eli-

NBC used the AT-BP4025 (or 4029s’) during the Olympics, though they were using larger cameras. I use the Sennheiser MKH 418S, though not on a camera. I have not used the ECM-680S but based on its specs, I’d say it’s a good choice for a camera mounted mic, esp. considering the price.

You need to make sure the mic (whatever you choose) won’t stick out in the frame.

I’m using Sony ECM-680S and I’ve very happy with it. Both Stereo and Mono sound quality is good and it does not extend into the shot using the standard EX mic mount. Sony has (had?) a $150 rebate on the mic if you bought it within 30 days of buying the camera. That rebate was on top of the discount my VAR gave me.

    Sanken CMS-10.

Beautiful sound, small size, switchable to mono. Also came with a nice rycote cover.

At about $2K it’s not cheap, but I’ve been very happy with it.
