Hi, new here. I’m a high school student editing a student film that was shot over the summer. We shot on a Panasonic DVX and used a single boom mic for most things and rarely used the in camera mic (only for action sequences).

I noticed that all of my audio was unpaired so I paired it, and to my dismay the audio was isolated to only the left channel. I thought this was odd so I muted 1 layer of audio in the timeline and got a pretty solid/balanced sound. I than tried muting the opposite track and all I heard was a very faint version of the other track.

This problem only happens with the footage shot using the boom. Is there a way to fix this? Is this a big problem? Should I delete the “quiet track”?

    -thank you

This is normal. The boom just went to one channel.

Ok, that’s logical. Now my question is whether I should:

    a. Delete the “empty” track and have a single audio track.

    b. Copy the top track and paste it to replace the “empty” track. I don’t know if this accomplishes anything and it would be a lot of work.

    thanks

Delete the unused track. Pan the other track to the center.

There is a general mistake to think that camcorders record stereo.
Even if you use an stereo mic, Camcorders record two mono channel because they have to audio track.
The stereo is upt to you to do it or not when exporting from FC.

You might also consider disconnecting the Channel 2 audio before you import the clip to the timeline. It’ll save you from having to delete anything, since nothing will be imported to Channel 2.
