OK here goes! Hi Apples I’m a PC nerd! BUT things are ticking along here and I might need to make the switch.
To be brief and to the point….
I am involved in Video creation internet streaming and DVD interface.
I am at a point with my ‘very slow, but picking up pace’ business that I need a powerful machine that does what I need it to do as quick as possible.
I am currently rendering DV 8 minute non stop shots in premier with ‘steady move’ (it is a filter that totally smoothes out camera shake) and it takes 84 minutes on my VAIO pentium3 1.2.
I have heard that both imovie and final cut pro offer a facility to do this (take the shake out).
I don’t suppose anyone knows how long a 8 minutes production takes to render to do this? and whether it is very effective making the clip totally shake free?
I would be incredibly gratefully for any advice as if it is quick and effective I

Actually the stabilizer in FCP would disappoint you. But have a look at this stabilizer from Germany: http://www.istabilize.de (there’s a demo online).

There is a good one as a plug-in for FCP, but I forgot the name. I tend to use AE for such jobs.

    Hope this helps,

  • Thanks, Uli, for that tip about the site

I just downloaded the program and demoed it… and it is amazing how well it works!

I had some car-lot footage I shot while riding in the bed of a pickup… pretty wiggly, jumpy stuff.
    iStabilize really smoothed it out.

And its just $59 US dollars to buy it.

(No, I don’t work for or know any “iStabilize” people.)

I assume you’re jest jesting (at least a bit).

I love my heavy-duty tripod, but sometimes you’ve gotta shoot while moving from place-to-place.
And I don’t always have access to the more exotic ($$) camera mounts.
A classic example is when I am high atop a 40-foot cherry-picker arm and the wind kicks in.

    This program is flat-out amazing.
(Check out their demo shot from the bicycle riding over the large cobble stones.)

I tried it on similar footage that I had on my disc, and… it actually works!
