    Hi all

I am a novice FCP user so please be easy on me. I am trying to accomplish the following feat: I want to place a simple rectangular or four point matte around an image, and then zoom in on a section of that image *without the matte moving*.

I have attempted to set up a four point matte as well (or, alternately, a rectangular mask shape), keeping the same parameters for my beginning and end keys. I then upped the scale to ‘zoom’ on my 2nd motion key, but the entire matte zooms along with the scale of the image. I want to keep the matte a consistent size as a section of the image is enlarged, with the rest of the image effectively leaving the frame of the matte.

any input is really appreciated. (i am sure the answer is quite simple, but I have given up after hours of reading, searching, and failed attempts)

    Thank you!

    Try this:

Create the scaling on your clip WITHOUT a matte. Get it how you want it, then nest that clip, and apply the matte to the nested clip.

By nesting the clip, you “bury” the keyframes, and FCP doesn’t see the scale as something that affects the matte.
