    Ok, here’s my story:

I started shooting one day on 16:9. Then a couple of days later, on the same tape, I switched the camera setting to 4:3. Then I uploaded to my computer JUST the 4:3 parts. Now on FCP the image looks 4:3 (no black bars) but slightly horizontally squished (like people’s faces look a little bit longer than they are supposed to be.

    My 2 questions:
-Does the footage on a tape keeps the setting of when you first started filming ? (16:9 on my case)
-If all my footage is 16:9 BUT looks 4:3 because there’s no black bars, then is there a setting on FCP that I can use to replace the black bars ? And therefore un-squish the image?

    Thanks!!

Is your sequence setting 16:9 also?

Check the clips properties and make sure the ANAMORPHIC tag is OFF. (in the browser… slide to the right quite a ways.)

    Hi Clarisse,
Your pictures look wrong in QT because QT Player by default display every kind of pictures as Square Pixels.
Just make sure that when you import your movies to FC, the 16×9 clips has the “Anamorphic” column checked ON. The 4×3 clips must have that un-checked.
    Happy New Year,
    Rafael
