Standards for playing DVD on Computers
Folks…
I’m trying to create a single layer DVD which will play equally as well on an current “average computer” as on a DVD standalone player.In the first go-round, I can play the DVD on my computer which is a P4 CPU 2.8GHz and 1024 RAM, but the authored disk stutters significantly on a P3 with a CPU of 600mHz and 512 RAM.
Is there a current standard of authoring which can ensure non-stuttering on a certain level of computer power. It plays flawlessly on 4 different standalone DVD players.
I believe I will have to include on the diskette box: “Best played (blah, blah, etc)”. But, I’m not sure what the lower current standards are (for computers), nor how to best to express it for currently authored DVDs.
The animation video and camera video looks great and the 1:1901 Dolby Digital 2/0 sound is melodious.
Is there an acceptable compromise out there?

MPEG 2 at or below 7.8 Mbps Max VBR with stereo AC3 at 192 Kbps would do the trick.
