Standard Definition from EX1R
I need to output a live standard definition composite video feed, in 4:3 ratio, for a large-screen output during the shoot. I’m using the EX1R.
I’m wondering whether anyone has experienced any “gotchas” in this process. After making the appropriate menu adjustments, I tested the live output on a standard def monitor via the composite/AV output. It looks fine.
I then tried recording in standard def, and transferring to my NLE (FCP). Because the SD format is DVCAM, the clips do not show up in the “Log and Transfer” window in FCP. Rather, they are .avi files. When I import those standard def .avi files into FCP, I get a warning that they need to be optimized for my editing system. Is this a warning that I need to be concerned about? If so, how do I optimize the files?
Alternatively, I am considering recording in HD (1080p30) while still outputting the standard def signal that is required for monitoring during the shoot. This seems to work fine – I’ve set the video out to standard def/crop.
Comments? Words of wisdom or caution? Thanks.
