I recall there once being a standalone version of M100 that allowed you to run the interface on a laptop. The assumption was that you had a desktop version with all the I/O hardware and the laptop allowed you to be able to take an edit / review session to a client (versus making them come to you).

    Is this still possible?

The M100 online support documentation seems to imply that this is no longer an option. If you want to run the app on another computer you either have to uninstall it from your current computer and reauthorize on the other, or purchase a new license to have it live simultaneously on both.

This has never been an issue before as I have never owned a laptop. However, I finally bought a Mac laptop and a method of taking a review timeline to a client would be quite handy.

Hi Ben, I would contact Media 100 and just explain that you need a second copy for your laptop to take work home or show clients your work etc. I’m pretty sure if you have a current license they will let you download a second copy and give you the product code for your laptop if it’s for your personal use.

It’s been my experience they are pretty helpful if you explain your situation and what you are trying to do.

    cheers

    Dave

There is only one version of Media 100, that can be used with our without Video I/O hardware. You definitely can run it on a laptop without any I/O device.

Aloha Ben – yes, contact M100 customer service. It’s my understanding and experience that your purchased Media 100 software can be used by you on both a tower AND a laptop.

I contacted M100 in Sept2013 as I needed to edit on location in Vegas during a client’s conference there. M100 gave me a second license for my Mac Laptop to run on at no cost as part of my original software purchase. Using a portable 1TB G-Tech Drive, I was cutting footage from my Sony F3 with ease as the Bellagio water fountain blasted outside my balcony. The software worked flawlessly, my client was very impressed with the final piece and I continued to make good money with my M100!

    Hi everyone!!!

Just wanted to follow-up and say that the folks at M100 (BorisFX) did provide me with an activation code for my laptop and I’m now testing out the NLE on it.

I had to do a bit of archive searching to get the DVCProHD codec installed on the laptop so my media would play. Thanks again to Floh (and CC for keeping old posts) as his tips for us users made it possible.

The laptop is a MacBook Pro (OS 10.9) with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 (4 cores) and 8GB of RAM. So far, everything is going well. [crossed fingers]
