Sorry, guys- I know this isn’t really Avid related, but I need some advice from the wealth of collective experience available in this forum.

I work for the military and they love their Power Point briefs. So a lot of our final projects requested by clients are media files instead of tape or disc, so they can embed their video into their power point briefs. Our current workflow has been field footage>avid>Sorenson Squeeze or Cleaner> to Windows media clips or Mpg1. This has worked fine because a lot of the stuff they want is usually short, edited clips. However we’ve started getting a lot of requests recently for much longer clips or raw footage, sometimes up to two hours in length. This obviously isn’t very effeciently done with our current workflow because it ties up our avids and takes up a ton of space, not to mention the transcode time.

What I need to know is if there are devices out there that we can basically plug a deck into, play the tape or DVD, and transcode the video into a variety of digital formats, and then hopefully burn the clip to disc or dump it onto a flash drive. Again, sorry this isn’t directly related to avid, but I know there are a lot of smart folks on this forum with a lot more experience than me, and I’m sure that something along these lines has to exist…I just need someone to help point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.
