Stablization with Imagineer’s Mokey
I have some very grainy film footage that was converted to HD (progressive) 1280×720.
The client wanted to stabilize the shots so I can do some roto and add elements into the shot with ease. They were “locked off” shots but still wiggle back and forth a bit – not because of the telecine.
I attempted it in AE first, but failed miserably as the grain was too much for the point tracker to handle.
I then attempted it in Mokey. I can only seem to find one tutorial on how to accurately stabilize in Mokey, so I attempted to read the manual and go for it.
Here is the problem:
In Mokey the stabilization seems to work really well and the image seems rock solid. I can tell because I can see the wiggle of the image and its exposing black edges (not an issue).
The real issue is when I’m exporting the stabilization data for after effects. I’m exporting the stab data for AE position (not corner pin) and copying the text document and pasting it onto a NULL object layer in AE.
I am then parenting the video layer to the NULL (from the first frame).
But it doesn’t seem to have as much “wiggle” and the stablization isn’t rock solid anymore! I don’t see any black edges being exposed like I did in Mokey.I thought maybe it was because I attached the data to a NULL, so I put the data right onto the video layer, but still no luck.
Any help?
