Being an old geezer with old tools; AE4, PS3, FCP2 and limited funds, my video work is now centered around family and friends.

My use of Motion Tracking over the years can be counted on one hand. Gave up trying to understand Mocha. Those hands were lots more steady back then, by the way. So my latest efforts to smooth out some major bumps in a recent family visit has been challenging, to say the least. Sold my tripod years ago…

I have watched/read numerous items on the subject, both here and youtube. Obviously, I’ve not picked the right ones.

I get that part where you set the points 1 and 2 “somewhere” on the screen. Just don’t know how big/small to make the boxes or “where” to place them to avoid even more bounce and tilts right off the screen.

Been trying for hours without any luck which is why I’ve come here, to the experts. If you could point me to a comprehensive tutorial that explains how to make my video behave (other than having a grandkid shoot it), I would really appreciate it. And the family viewers would not get seasick watching them…

    Thank you.

There are indeed several options, depending on the detail and movement of your shot. If the shot is a good candidate for stabilization, it will generally be one of these:

    1. stabilizing around a planar track from mocha

    2. stabilizing using 1 or two points in After Effects

    3. Using the warp stabilizer effect

If the camera is mostly in one place but drifiting a little, 1 or 2 may be the ticket for locking it in place. If it’s a moving shot that you want to smooth out, it will be 3. We might be able to recommend a specific approach if you can upload some stills or describe the shot in more detail.

Thanks Brendon for your speedy reply. Tried #2 without any luck. Here’s the raw shot. The rest is much the same. Even tried slowing it down. No luck there either…

Using a Canon EOS Rebel T6.

How do I upload a short clip for your review? Don’t see the icon…

    Hello John,

Now, I’m no expert either when it comes to digital in Post Production. But here are some here that may be able to help you?…
