Hi all, I am relatively new to C4D and am just really getting my head around things.

I’m looking to create something where a ball is inside a cage. The ball will grow and shrink in size, and as it does this parts of it need to squeeze out of the holes in the cage.

I thought at first to use something like a clothide tag on the ball and a collider tag on the cage, but this is not the way to do it.

I would be very very grateful if anyone can shed some light on what part of C4D i need to be looking at to help with this work.

    Thanks people!

Unless you are using R12 you are pretty much stuck with cloth.
Here is starter file that might help.

Thanks Randy! Unfortunately I’m using R11.5, is there something new in 12 then that would let me do it?

The file you sent would actually work i reckon, if i can control the movement of it a bit better.
Thanks so much for the help!

All the movement in the file i set up is done with the forces so you can get pretty good control but it takes time and a lot of trial and error.

Release 12 introduced some really great dynamics (its kinda all thats new in it) that include softbody dynamics…. 11.5 have Modynamics but you cant get that to bulge between the bars more of a bowling ball bounce.

    Hi Randy,

I saw this thread and find it interesting. But, I have Cinema Studio version 12, and I can’t locate the Cloth NURBS object. I can open your file, but can’t seem to recreate it because I don’t know where to find that object. The manual doesn’t really say where it should be found.

In R12 the cloth nurbs is in the simulation menu: cloth

Here is a version of the same thing from R12 using soft body dynamics.

The ClothNurb object is in the Simulation menu.

If you have v12 the new Dynamics Soft Body is might be the better way to go

Thank you. I hadn’t explored that menu yet. Lots of new stuff in ver. 12 I need to explore!
