Squeeze Mode – Using a HVX with DVX100A
I have a friend that needs to do a 2 camera shoot. He owns a DVX100A and was going to borrow a friend’s HVX200. He noticed both cameras had the squeeze option for 16:9 shooting. Is the HVX200 16:9 Native when recording to P2 and squeeze when recording to Mini DV tape? I always thought the DVX100A was not really true 16:9 but a digital effect, no? I went on to say that he would probably need to put an anamorphic lens on his DVX100A to get the true 16:9 that the HVX200 has. Am I correct with this? I think he is more confused about both cameras having the “squeeze” option. He will be shooting to TAPE with the HVX200 and not P2. So in a nut shell what should I suggest for him to do in order to have both cameras shooting 16:9 to tape?

You can only shoot SD to tape w/ the 200.
SIDE CROP:
Recorded in the regular 4:3 aspect ratio.
The left and right edges of the image are cut.LETTER BOX:
Recorded in the 16:9 aspect ratio.
Black bands are recorded at the top and bottom of the image.SQUEEZE:
The recorded images are squeezed horizontally so that they are shown as 16:9 images on a compatible wide-screen television.
If you have selected SQUEEZE, “SQU” appears on the screen.Chris Tompkins
