Activity Forums Compression Techniques Squeeze 4 Widescreen

I can’t seem to export a widescreen movie from Squeeze 4- it comes out 4:3 with the image distorted, no matter what frame size I set.

The footage was shot on a Sony DV camera using the built-in widescreen feature, whcih I believe is just digitally anamorphic. The captured footage automatically displays correctly in Premiere Pro 1.5. Exporting to an uncompressed AVI and playing it with WMP retains the correct aspect ratio. But when I bring that AVI intermediary into Squeeze, the image is 4:3.

I’ve tired various combinations of frame size and checking the “maintain aspect ratio” box. I’m using the Sorenson 3 codec, hinted for streaming.

Any help here would be hot. Thanks.

Yeah, that’s an annoying issue with 4.1 – it assumes all non-square source is 4:3.

You’ll have to uncheck “maintain aspect ratio” and manually enter a frame size appropriate for your source size. E.g, if you have 16:9 full screen source, 432×240 would work nicely.

Thanks Ben. I had methodically tried many cominations of frame size and maintain ration settings, to no avail. But for some inexplicable reason, the obvious setting is now working (320×180, unchecked “maintain aspect ratio”) when it wasn’t before. I must have incorrectly applied the settings during my earlier attempts.
