I’m trying to create a wide screen animation of a logo to play full screen on my 24″ imac. I am using DVCPro HD 720P as my project settings. It looks nice and wide in Motion. However, when I export, the resulting QT movie is anamorphic (960 X 720) so round objects in the logo look oval. Tried several other settings and export methods but result is same. Any thoughts? By the way the default project setting is NTSC SD. Would that have any bearing on the export if I changed the project setting to an HD setting?

    Thanks, John.

Have you tried the following: go to view menu and select correct for aspect ration option. then render and see the result.

Thanks. I’ll make sure that option is selected and try a test render.

What a difference 8 hours makes. Apparently after last night’s shut down and this morning’s boot-up output is now what I wanted, a nice wide-screen image. And that is with Correct for Aspect Ratio either on or off.

Apparently Motion was a little tired late last night (like me). Thanks for your response.

Well, on second look… the preview movie that Motion generates looks correct but when I play the file from the folder in which the movie was saved it plays back anamorphic. I’ve looked at QT settings and don’t see anything that would stretch it out.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks, John

So I finally got the file to the desired widescreen result. I imported the exported file from
Motion into Final Cut and used DVCHD 720p project settings. The movie stretched out and I exported the file and it works great. Not sure why there was the extra step required with FCP. But it worked.

FCP sometimes “loses” the anamorphic setting for an anamorphic Motion project file so you need to either add the checkmark in the item properties or change the Distort parameter.

Thanks for your response Mark. Concerning the original ptoblem with Motion’s export of a resulting anamorphic file from a HD setting. Any reason for that? The file only played anamorphic until the import into FCP.

    Thanks, John
