I am trying to create a 1080×1080 format of a video just cut in 1920×1080 in my V13 system. It doesn’t seem to want to create an mp4 at those sizes. Main concept, the only choice I found that offers a custom aspect ratio that I can input 1080sq into, only seems to create a n mp4.tmp file that i can’t play. I’ve tried the XDCAM EX render choice at 1440×1920 and it seems to do nothing at all different from the original.

is there a way to create a square HD file for Facebook?

    Thank you,

    Rob

In VP13 rendering to MainConcept AVC when having set the size to 1080×1080 works fine here. You may need to start from the render preset “Internet-HD 1080p” and modify the size then.

Actually that is exactly what I did, and got a file rendered called “Jen_.mp4.tmp” which could not be played until I removed the TMP and then it was the original format of 16×9.

Strange? Or am I missing something?

There should be no .tmp file in the end. This looks like rendered what not have been finalized.

Also – did you ensure in the render window you unchecked “Conform frame size by source”?

It should mean: “… like rendering was not …”

Yes, “allow source to adjust frame size” is unchecked.

Any chance to show a screenshot of your render settings?

I will try to add a screen shot of the render settings below:

I just tested again with exact same render settings as in your screenshot and my rendered file is 1080×1080.

But how do you check your video still is 1920×1080? Did you already try to analyze via MediaInfo?

My guess is your result may also be 1080×1080 but with black bars on bottom and top because (of course) the video is neither stretched nor cropped to make the 16:9 format fit the 1:1 frame now.
If that it is you need to further edit your timeline events, while cropping is the prefered method.

Here’s a screen shot of the frame after rendering at 1080×1080

Still 16×9, just smaller than the normal 16×9 file and less than half the file size.

    I’m totally confused.

Please check the file via MediaInfo and see what it means for the frame size.

Of course it would still look like 16:9 if you don’t edit the frame in any way. But it probably is not 16:9 but letterboxed 1:1. Try cropping your video events to a 1:1 frame size in the timeline before rendering.
