    Hello
I am working on a sports Documentary and I would like to create a “spotlight” effect where a small ring
of light flows a player down the field and the rest of the video dims, I would also like to have multiple lights
    following multiple players…

does anyone have any idea how to do this? I am fairly new to the AE world and would greatly appreciate any
    help

    Thanks a ton in advance
    Chris

You could use lights to do this, by making the footage a 3d layer and then keyframing a light to follow them.
I would probably do it a different way though to get greater control of the image.
I would have two layers the top one would be the light layer the bottom one the dark layer (achieve these with what ever effect you like)
On the top layer make a circular mask and feather it however you like, then keyframe it to follow the player.
Use multiple masks for different players if need be.
    Hope that makes sense.

    Thanks for the help
now do you know if it is possible to key frame the light using tracker data?
    and how?

    Thanks
    Chris

    P.S. any other suggestions?

If you have AE6.5 you might try Perspective>CC Spotlight. You can throw multiple spots on the layer, and contol the darkening, or use them as gels (Custom for each player if you like). Tracking data pasted to the “To” parameter (where the light shines on) works fine.

I’d set up the “From parameter for each light. The light changes shape as they move depending on the From-To controls, after a few minuted fooling around you’ll get a feel for it.

    Thanks for you suggestion

However I cant seem to find the effect you are refering to
I do have AE 6.5 and I am looking in

    Effects>Perspective

But the only effects I see in there are Bevels and drop shadows
am I looking in the wrong place?

Did you install the Cycore effects from the AE CD?

How would you do this with AE 7.0?
