I want to put the name of my company on a screen, and make a spotlight effect go across and light it up as the light passes over it. It can be on a black backgroung, but would also like to know how to do it also as text on a picture. I am trying it now and have the camera positioned below the middle of the text at the bottom of the screen, and am just adjusting the poi before the text, and swinging the poi after the end of the text. It works (poi moving across the text), but don’t see no light.

just to make sure i know what you’re looking for… you want the text to not be seen until a spotlight passes over it, lighting it up.

the easiest way i can think of would be to type the text layer, then add the circle effect. set the blending mode within the circle effect (at the bottom) to stencil alpha. now you should be able to drag/keyframe the center property of the circle to pass over the text to reveal it. adjust the color, size and feather as needed.
