    Hey,

I am about to start work on a soccer training video. I would like to be able to take some of my high angle shots, pause them and add directional arrows that move accoss the field that reveal shapes on the field and ball direction etc… similar to what you might see broadcasters/analysts at halftime shows (football, hockey, etc) demonstate when describing plays/errors/etc.. what sort of AE tools/effects would be most useful for acheiving this effect?

I also plan to experiment with motion sketch to add other effects that follow the action.

Any pointers and ideas for making this project that much better are greatly appreciated!

    (I’m using AE 7)

    Thanks,

    Skeets.

    Well,

We actually use a pen that writes on a monitor….that pen’s actions is dropped onto the footage (I work for a sports network). To acheive this type of effect in AE is really quite simple….Vector paint. Record your strokes and set to animate, or display all strokes and use masks…You could also pre create these in illustrator or photoshop and use masks to reveal the strokes.

as above, or you could draw a mask, put a Stroke on it, then animate that. gives a cleaner finish than hand drawing in vector paint

It does give a cleaner look, but if the look you want is the one on the sports channel, then it is too clean.
