    Hello,

I am an infrequent user of this particular forum, basically because I find it too cluttered. The topics are very diverse (which I guess is a good thing really), but to me it appears to be a mish-mash of newbie and pro questions alike, ranging from type “how do I install Final Cut” / “my Mac doesn’t work” to “Correct adjustment of HD monitor?” / “Colour correcting for 35mm”.

No offence to either novices or veterans on FCP, but I bet each find it difficult to see topics that are relevant to them. I mean, in 24 hours this forum will easily generate 100+ new topics and replies. Try going away for a week and then to find your post again to see if anyone has replied to it! Chances are it will off by several pages and that no-one has bothered to sift through the mass of topics just to reply to your particular question.

I dunno, but I think that if possible this forum should be split into specific areas such as “FCP Hardware”, “FCP Basics”, “FCP Plug-ins”, “FCP High Def”, “FCP Tips&Tricks” a.s.o.
    Opinions?

First off, Amund, your right. It is hard to keep up with the forum, and it is a testament to FCPs distribution and the so-so manuals. But I argue that if people were to search a little better, and use other forums to talk about their problems, the FCP forum could get down to size, without the need for more dedicated forums. If you have HD questions put them in your capture cards’ forum or the HD forum. If your mac crashed, put that in the Apple forum. And beyond all other suggestions “Search Before You Speak! Please!” The greatest asset that this forum has to me is that I learn just by browsing the pages, and segmenting would only require more work.

It’s all a little frustrating any way you slice it.

I agree with you totally Adam, and try to stick to some self-control when posting questions in the right forums. But, you know as well as me that people are usually not that well behaved, especially when they’re frustrated over some technical issue and need fast answers. I think that any system with such a broad user base will suffer from as many queries as there are users. Dont know what it’s like over in the Avid camp, but they must surely have the same issues?

I must say that CreativeCow.net has a better forum structure than other forums. 2-pop.com has what you suggest in breaking down FCP in every possible level of competence and hardware combination. I find it EXTREMELY cumbersome.

Occasionally I go over there when I think I might have missed something concerning FCP. Then again, I might just do it just for the fun of putting hot pokers in my eyes.

Here Search Posts is an option for you. At 2-pop.com you almost have to use the Search function.
