splitting captured .avi into smaller files or clips
I just got vegas 9 and have a large .avi that I want to break up into many smaller clips that will appear seperately in the media bin.
I am aware of splitting clips in the timeline but have not been able to find a way to save that split clip as a seperate entity.
I’m trying to seperate different shots from a scene I shot and find it alot easier to have them as seperate clips than trying to some how manage all this in the timeline.

Right Click on Event : Create SubClip. AND you get to name it too!

I realize I probably should have posted this in the basics forum.
I’ve context clicked everything I can see and see no context menu that says create subclip. Subclip doesn’t show up in the Help contents.

Theo? Good advice, yes, but our friend already has them in Vegas and wishes to save edited Events.

To Theo: I was just trying to find a way to not have to recapture the clip.
To Graham: I’ve got the Platinum version.
I’ve been searching the Help contents and there is a reference to being able to make subclips from the Trimmer (and they do use the word “subclips”) but try as I might I can’t find instructions.

Mike, after selecting Subclips in the online help, scroll down to What do you want to do? and click on Use subclips where you’ll find the instructions you’re looking for.

When I go to Online Help from my program and enter “subclip or subclips” in the search it comes back “no topics”.
Subclips does not come up in the “contents” section either.

Mike, I searched a few other Vegas forums and Sony, in their infinite wisdom (yeah, right!!) dropped this feature with the introduction of VMS 9 🙁
I suggest getting VirtualDub and using this excellent and free tool to do your file splitting.
It has a feature called “Direct Stream Copy” so the new AVI files will be (technically) identical to the original ones.
