  • splitting audio tracks into two channels and panning them

I think this is very common in the music industry and used for vocals in basically every song – the same information in two channels, which are panned left and right accordingly.

My question / idea – would this make sense with music tracks as well ?
I’ve tried this with a stereo track and not sure if it actually sounds any better / different or if it’s just placebo.

Is this technique used in film as well ? If so, only for dialogues, or other things as well ?

My thinking is, that it would give a more immersed, richer feeling to the movie…

    Mike,

In the right context, this definitely works in music. If the audio track is truly a stereo track, then panning and/or splitting can be quite effective. If you’re dealing with a stereo track that’s just two identical mono tracks, panning would only alter the perceived volume of the track.

now you mean the original, or the newly created intended for panning ?
