Splitting a two-hour clip
Hi! Due to bringing in sole very old 8mm tape footage, I now have several two-hour clips, which doesn’t match well with my highly-granular and “keyworded” HD clips from the last few years. What’s the best way to edit these clips down into new, granular clips, so I can keep them and keyword them individually?

Would using markers help?

I don’t THINK so, because I don’t think that would allow the clips to be displayed as individual clips and key worded differently. That said, I’ll check because I’m not an expert on markers.

Mark – your post about splitting a two hour clip may be old news for you by now – but did you find a solution? I also have very long files – whole analog video tapes captured as one file. In addition to wanting shorter clips for editing, I’d like to back up the files on data DVDs.
One option would be to:
1)use FCP to cut the long video into smaller, usable clips
2)export the clips as full resolution Quicktime movies
3)import the clips into a new Library; also back them up on the DVDs.I’m open to advice from all!
