    Hi!
My previous experience has been with Windows Moviemaker. Now I have Vegas 8 and would like to take a 10 minute clip I’ve made and cut it in the appropriate places and add transitions but I can’t figure out how to do this in Vegas. I’ve tried adding an empty event, resizing it, and placing a transition there.. It will only add it to the edge of the event and the transition isn’t long enough. I’ve tried the help tutorials also, but they don’t address my problem. I realize I may be going about this the wrong way but I would like to try this way first before I move on to the “correct” way.

    Thanks for your patience!

Bullies don’t grow up. They just grow old.

To split the event, place your curser on the frame where you want to split it and press “S”. Then to create a transition grab the right event and drag it over the left event. An “X” will appear in the overlapped area. This is a dissolve. If you want to replace it with some other transition go to your transitions box and drag another transition to the “X”. The transition will change. The length of the transition will be controlled by how much overlap you create. You might want to make sure that “ripple edit” is turned off until you learn how to use it – if you don’t know already.
