I have a sunrise clip. The sunrise is in real-time and quite slow, so I want to speed it up. However, if I just speed up the clip, the ocean tide will speed up too, which I don’t want to happen. What is the best way to go about splitting the clip into two separate pre-comps, so I can do a time compression on the sunrise without effecting the ocean tide? Thanks!

Lots of options – masks, RotoBrush, keying, AutoTrace, mattes or a combination of the above. It all depends on the footage you’re dealing with.
