I wish to create an hd video (upscale if i have to) by showing two sd 640×480 videos together side by side.

Have started with a project of 1920×1080 video but when I import the first sd video to a new video track it stays in the middle, i change the x center but all that does is crop out one half of the sd video

Put each video on its own track and use Track Motion to reposition it as desired.

So for my project I am also creating a split screen of 4 different sd videos, thanks to the info I received here I successfully used TRACK MOTION to orient the 4 videos into 4 corners of the screen. They all fit nicely into one 640×480 video.

Now the issue is if I don’t want to use the beginning of the track and want to use footage further down the track on one of the videos I make a cut, delete the unwanted part, and then drag the part I use forward in the timeline so it lines up with the other 3 videos, this causes the track motion data to reset leaving this track in full screen mode. any suggestions?

….hmmm…..never seen that before! What happens when you set the Track Motion back to the settings you had it before the cut?

I was hoping to not have to set all the track motion data again, but it seems to work now, i carefully moved the section backwards a little , then brought the section after the cut to the left slowly and now it works. It’s basically fighting me the whole time as if it’s doing something it rather not do.

New issue (of course) I now have 4 videos in the respective corners and wish to label each one with a little text. When I go to the track to add text there is no option to Add Generated Media. why not?

Add 4 new video tracks above the 4 you already have. In each of these tracks drag down a Text and Titles from generated Media. Now in each of those tracks, in Track Motion, change the X and Y to correspond the one of the lower tracks you have the video clips on. Then size the text and use the Placement tab to place them where you want them to appear. I’m speaking about Legacy Text/Titles.

You will need to do this one each of the text you place to match the video clips you placed in the four corners. There may be another way to do this, but I think this would be the quick and easiest with some experimentation. Hope I explained this well enough!!

    Ok so that solution works.

New issue (again the program seems to be fighting me the whole way through)

I encoded the video at my typical bitrate of 2k for 640×480, results were terrible, lots of artifacts, pixelation, etc.. Do I need to boost the bitrate? I notice color pixelation when I just play the timeline even before encoding.

Do I need to encode on my more powerful PC with a better gpu?

I don’t know which render format or template you are using, but are you actually using 2k or 2m, s in 2,000 or 2,000,000 bite rate? Are you is CBR or variable? I would use variable and crank it up to 4,000,000 max, 2,000,000 average and maybe also check 2 pass for a test. If that improves things you may also want to consider uping it a bit more and trying another format depending on what your final delivery will be for. I don’t know if this is for Youtube, playing on a computer, TV, perhaps a DVD? If that doesn’t make an improvement perhaps there is something else effecting the quality. If you see the same artifacts in the render as you see in the preview, something may be wrong before it gets to the render!
