  • Split Quicktime files won’t play in Vegas 8 Pro

    Hi

I’ve been handed a drive with footage on it that I need to edit. The Quicktime file came out of a FCP system. It was aproximately a 10 gig file but because the external Hard Drive was formatted as FAT32 the file was split into 6 different files

    Cane………….QuickTime Movie….2,095,481 KB
    Cane-av.mov1…..MOV1 File….2,095,056 KB
    Cane-av.mov2…..MOV2 File….2,095,057 KB
    Cane-av.mov3…..MOV3 File….2,095,150 KB
    Cane-av.mov4…..MOV4 File….2,095,057 KB
    Cane-av.mov5…..MOV5 File….2,095,543 KB

    Cane.mov.sfk…..SFK File………4,601 KB

I’m sure there must be a simple way of restoring the files to their original state but I can’t find it. The MOV1, MOV2, etc files won’t play in Vegas or Quicktime.

    Any ideas?

    regards

First, find out which quicktime codec was used in creating these
files from within FCP. The file splitting is not an issue…the
codec that was used is the first thing to know in order to
solve this issue..find out this detail from whom you got
these footages from and then let us know.

It depends on what was used to split these files. If it was simply a file split, then you can stitch them back together by copying all the pieces to a new file from a command prompt like this:

    copy /b Cane.mov+Cane-av.mov1+Cane-av.mov2+Cane-av.mov3+Cane-av.mov4+Cane-av.mov5 Cane-new.mov

In other words, just list all of the files 1..5 with + signs between them. The /b is important so that it does a binary copy. You video will be in the Cane-new.mov file (or whatever you choose to call it). The new filename just can’t be the same as an existing file you are trying to copy.
