  • Split long clip into two shorter FILES for DVD burn

I diged a 40 minute clip that I now need to burn to a DVD. The file is obviously too large for a DVD so is there a way to split the clip into two smaller files. Is this what the Media manager is good for?

actually, Media Manager wouldn’t be good for this.

best would, be to make the one clip into 2 in FCP,
    (create subclips)
    then BATCH EXPORT them.

the problem with Media Manager is that if the clips but up against each other, & have continuous code,
then MM will try to be as ecomnimical as possible with hte number of files it creates
    and will not separate them.

    cheers,

Just open the clip in Quicktime, make an in and out and copy and paste that to a new QT movie, then make an in and an out and paste second half to a qT movie.

No exporting, rendering or any of all that. Don’t even have to open FCP.

that will only create a reference file.
it wont be able to be backed up to DVD, which is the goal.

you could do it in quicktime,
but as well as going thru the steps you’ve outlined you would have to do a save as, and make it self contained.
i’m not sure you would keep the timecode, either, although it’s worth testing.

you;d have a hard time with frame accuracy,
but as long as there was enough overlap it wouldn’t matter.
