  • Split Flap Display (Departure Board) Rig – Mograph?

    Hi,

I’m looking to create a Split Flap Display rig in C4D (similar to the old style departure boards in airports / train stations with flipping cards which create numbers & letters).

The rig ultimately needs to consist of a grid of ‘units’ (top & bottom flaps) which can transition between images covering the entire grid – through to individual images on each unit.

Ideally I would be able to customise the transitions too – for example a ‘cascade’ of flipping diagonally across the board, or a in a radial motion outwards from the centre.

Here is an example of the effect I am looking to achieve:

I’ve started to research this & figure that some kind of Mograph based rig might hold the solution – see below for my *very* basic attempt – planes in a radial cloner which are held in position by plain effectors – the cloner then being rotated to create the flipping motion (thanks to Base80 for the idea!).

I fully appreciate this is a difficult effect to create as I have described, but any assistance or ideas on how to achieve this would be great.

    Thanks for your time,

    Tim
