Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Spinning Wheel

    Hi,

Ive got a really annoying problem with FCP. every time i jump out of the app to another app or finder to do something (pull in some .psd files or whatever) and jump back into FCP i get a spinning wheel for about 10-20 seconds before the app comes back to life. this really slows down productivity having to sit watching this wheel every time i move between apps. has anyone had a similar problem before or know of a fix? ive dumped pref files with no success.
im running a 2 x 3Ghz quad with 8GB ram. i did recently use pacifist to roll back quicktime to 7.3.1 to get round the ETT issues brought up by 7.4 so that may have something to do with it?

    regards

    Chris

Any chance you are running Boris Continuum Complete 4.1 with FCP 6.0.2? We had this problem in the one room that had those plugins and it turns out thats not compatible with 6.0.2.

unfortunately not. we have sapphire v2. demo plugins installed, tiffen 55mm and the old v7 dft filters (no longer in use as they are ppc versions)

That’s a RAM issue of some sort. Since you have a good bit of RAM, the issue is not about the quantity of RAM, but rather how its being handled by the OS.

I would first repair permissions and trash prefs and test to see if that fixed the problem. Then, I would try to figure out, by process of elimination, which app might be causing the problem, if indeed its a single app and not the OS. Once you make that determination you can go from there to figure out a fix.

id already dumped prefs and repaired permissions, did it again but no joy. i did recently use pacifist to roll back QT to version 7.3.1 could that of damaged the OS in some way?
