Spherical Mapping Corrector
Posted by Dick Smith on January 10, 2008 at 8:45 pmhope im not beating a dead horse, i just keep finding refs to cc sphere…i need a plugin that will..
A: werk on a mac
B: create a correct spherical stretch of my comp to place on a sphere in C4Dexz:

seems like https://www.richardrosenman.com/software/downloads/ is what i need, but PC are banned around here..any suggestions (aside from doing a sphere in AE) are appreciated. also if there is a way for me to correct this in c4d, even better.

January 10, 2008 at 10:24 pmZaxwerks? Never used it but I think there are real 3d primitives in Zax and there used to be a free demo.
The problem with CC Sphere is that it only maps pixels to a 2d simulation. It requires a 1×2 image. The seam is always a problem and the pinch at the poles must be compensated for upstream, not in the filter. You design the poles to be distorted outside of the filter so when they get pinched, the distortion becomes invisible. It’s not hard to do, actually, just takes patience.
Hope you find a useful solution, CC may not be it.
You should be able to find someone who can build this for you on a PC an just give you the movies.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

January 11, 2008 at 4:49 pmI would be shocked if C4D didn’t allow you to create UV maps via spherical (or other) projection methods. Have you looked into that?

January 11, 2008 at 6:57 pmno, can not do sphere in AE, must be incorporated into my 3d scenes..i wanna make my after effects scene, place spherical mapping on an adjustment and pump em out..i can make it werk, but the work around is a beach. maybe i need to slow down and focus more on a c4d technique..

January 11, 2008 at 7:24 pmGo slumming, mingle with the unwashed. Find a person with a PC and PhotoShop/IrfanView(freebie)… Internet Cafe? Library? Univ/Art School Lab?
Or, as a last resort, I’m unwashed… a PC person… an exchange of emails would take 10 minutes.

January 11, 2008 at 7:41 pmi too am unwashed, thanks for the advice, but roaming around asking people is not gonna fit in my time schedule:) and we could exchange emails quickly, but transfering these big ace files wouldnt. i know theres an easy answer, its probaly right here on my desk….nope just old coffee cups.
