I shot some footage of clouds in 1080 60i HDV that I plan to use as a time lapse. I need to speed-up this footage and then render. I assume that I need to repeat this process a few times in order to get the rapid progression that I desire. What format should I render to each time? I will be bringing this segment back into my HDV time line. Thanks in advance for your replies. My canon XH-A1 does not have a time-lapse feature, so I figured that the above process is the best way to go.

You can speed up your clip in two ways. First you can add a velocity envelope to the track.

Second you can go to the end of your clip and hold down the CTRL key and resize the event. As you make the event smaller, it will go faster.

For Velocity envelopes, select clip, then (shortcut key V) adds the envelope line to the track, raise the line to the top for maximum speed.

You can use both methods together for faster speedups.
I beleive both methods used together will give you 12X speed.

If that’s still not fast enough, render the clip to a new track and do these steps again.

As for the best render settings, I’ll leave that to my fellow Cow Brotheren who are HDV Saavy.

    Regards, Rick.

Another tip — decide if you want any motion blur between the frames you’re keeping. If you speed it up 12X, you’re basically throwing away 11 frames and keeping every 12th frame, and Vegas will, by default, add a bit of frame blending between those frames, which might not necessarily give you the time-lapse look you want. If you want to go without those blended frames, right click on your video and select “disable resample”. That way each 12th frame will remain unchanged without unnecessary frame blending added.
