Speedgrade as a Conform Utility for Premiere

Very interesting thread. I was battling this exact issue yesterday. I’ll second the request of better conform-tools and image sequence support across AE / Premier. Speed Grade does seems to have promise for sure though. Hopefully Adobe can integrate it’s image-support-bits to its other tools.

GlueTools was awesome back in the day. I think however its development is dead as it heavily relies on QuickTime and as of 10.7 and 10.8 it’s not something Apple is developing. It would IMO be best to have image sequence support in the OS if possible.

Great thread, i am currently working out a workflow on the same issue (with OPENExr files not DPX).

The AAF/XML (from Resolve) give out both timecode, frame count, file path, file name metadata but Premiere Pro does not read this properly and therefore won’t conform all clips.
When I link one sequence and check it out its no problem.

So did you ever find a sollution to this? If so i’m very interested in hearing about it.

Nope. I’m doing most of my work in Nuke Studio now. Doesn’t seem the Premiere dev team is interested in adding image sequence conforming functionality to Premiere. It’s likely far too niche for them to spend the time on. Can Premiere read exr files now? It didn’t used to be able to.

Since most of the commercial work I see is shot on Alexa as ProRes 4444 files, I started using that as my main format for finishing, then render out DPXs for Nuke from Premiere as needed. Not super space efficient but the color handling is tight and I could do accurate conforms easily enough in Resolve Lite (free) and pass off an XML of the conformed picture back to Premiere.

Nuke Studio has rendered that mostly obsolete. I have to put up with a lot more software quirks, especially in the timeline, but I’m only ever touching Premiere anymore for versioning.

Yes, OpenEXR files are supported in CC.

I will send in a bug report (or request maybe?). Hopefully if we are many enough they will consider it sooner rather than later.

I might try your workflow, right now i’m going through After Effects with DNxHD clips with the proper metadata for reference and replacing there and send it to Premiere. Goes quite fast, but much slower than if Premiere had a proper Conform for image sequences.
