Speed Ramp…how is it done?
Posted by Jeffrey Gould on October 3, 2005 at 10:32 pmSpeed ramp shots/effects, is it a result of effects or does it involve a certain shooting style/effect as well? Thanks

October 3, 2005 at 10:39 pmCheck the AE help under “time remapping”.
If you want a smoother slowdown, you might need the Twixtor plugin.

October 3, 2005 at 10:41 pm… and shoot with the film camera running at a high rate of speed, so you have more frames to work with. Essentially you shoot for slo-mo, then speed it up (in post) to look normal.

October 4, 2005 at 4:28 amSince you didn’t mention exactly what kind of speed ramp you want I might as well point out you can go to layer:enable time remap and create a speed ramp from normal speed to high speed.

October 5, 2005 at 2:38 pmThanks guys, Was interested to see if I had to do something while shooting. I plan to purchase twixtor. I’m shooting dvcam…not film. Shooting a surgery next week (mock) and wanted to do some ramp shots as I’ll be using a dolly/tracks, thought it would look cool to start fast motion, then slow down or vice versa, also with Dr’s walking down the hall with scrubs on. Thanks for the replies.

October 5, 2005 at 7:39 pmIf there’s any way you can dolly slower and ask the talent to move normally but slowly (test the motion to see if it looks weird), you’ll appreciate the extra frames.
