  • speed problems/audio pops while capturing video in FCP 5

Lately I’ve been having problems with captured footage in FCP 5. When I play back the video I’ve captured there are speed problems (the audio will briefly speed up, as if it’s skipping a few frames) and pops in the audio. I can’t detect these issues while the capture is happening; only after the fact.

Admittedly I’m using a cheap consumer DV camcorder to digitize (Panasonic Palmcorder) but I’ve been using it for a couple years and these problems have only started occurring within the last few weeks. I used tape head cleaner and it hasn’t helped.

Could this be a memory issue? I’m running a Dual 1 GHz G4 with 2 GB SDRAM.

Has anyone encountered/know how to fix this problem?

Are the latest tapes you’ve captured recorded in the shooting camcorder at 48 kHz or 32 kHz audio sampling?

Was the tape recorder in LP mode (instead of SP)? If so, then you need the camera that the tape was originally was recorded in for it to play back correctly. Ideally, you would take the original camera that made the recording and record to another deck or camera to redub the tapes into SP format. FCP will have an easier time understanding these tapes. You can use your palm-corder to do the recording provided it has a firewire input and records in SP mode.

The same problems have been happening with different tapes from different projects.

Everything has been recorded SP 48kHz
